Bishop Gerasim December 4:
We are happy to announce that on Friday, December 4 (St. Barbara Day) we will be blessed with a visit by His Grace the Rt. Rev. Gerasim, Bishop of Ft. Worth and Locum Tenens of the Diocese of the South. Details will be forthcoming, but we are planning a 10 am Liturgy for that day, as well as a Lenten reception afterwards. Please mark your calendars.
After the November Synod Meeting, we may be welcoming His Grace as the new ruling hierarch of the Diocese with the title, Bishop of Dallas and the South. Many Years!
Congratulations and Many Years!
On Saturday, September 12, at 3 pm we celebrated the Baptism of Delilah Dean Lovett (St. Dorothy of Caesarea), granddaughter of Diane Smith; daughter of Julianna Dorothy Smith and Casey Dean Lovett. We congratulate the family and wish them a “prosperous and peaceful life, health, salvation, furtherance in all good things, and many blessed years.”
Fall Clothing Drive: Ft. Worth Men’s Night Shelter
The Fall Clothing Drive for the Ft. Worth Presbyterian Men’s Shelter has been a tremendous success over the past few years. Each fall, workers at the shelter look forward to the generous contributions from members and friends of St. Barbara’s. This year we will conduct a similar effort through October and November.
One would never know it by current temperatures, but cold weather is just around the corner. Thus, the Shelter will soon be in great need for GENTLY USED or NEW sweaters and coats. Larger size NEW men’s T-Shirts, underwear and socks are also highly sought after items. Cash donations may be given through the Church, to be used to purchase clothing at nearby stores. Please see Mrs. Carol Guarnieri, Mr. Bob Guarnieri or Mrs. Lynn Powers for more information. And look for the collection box in the parish hall. We thank everyone in advance for your kind generosity.
Aid for El Salvador:
A member of St. Barbara’s has a friend and colleague who will make a humanitarian aid trip to El Salvador, October 22-27. The main purpose of the trip is to provide medical care, supplies and compassion to those with limited access to quality health care. The Gospel will be shared with men and women in prison. If you would like more information or would like to help with this worthwhile effort you may contact and/or bring supplies to Mr. Matthew Groessel. Medical items needed are: pre-built first aid kits, CAT tourniquets, and over the counter medication. All sizes of new or gently used shoes are also in demand (all sizes welcome for men, women and children). Fund raising goal for the trip is $5,000. Stewardship Appeal:
With the start of the New Church Year, we thank everyone for their past and present support of St. Barbara’s. We also humbly remind everyone of the need St. Barbara’s has for our continued support. Financially, to be sure, but also in terms of prayer, of the offering of time, talent and energy toward the life of the Church.
