Orphaned Children and North Texans
This summer through Opened Hearts and Homes for Children several North Texas Orthodox families are opening their homes for orphans from Ukraine. A total of six children will benefit from this experience. They arrived on June 28 and are staying in the extended Dallas, Ft. Worth area until the first week of August. Two families from St. Barbara’s and Archangel Gabriel Mission are among the hosts, as well as a family from St Maximus Church in Denton and a family from St. Sava Church in Allen. All are excited to see what the next 30 days have to offer. Please keep in your prayers these families together with the children who have traveled such a distance for this opportunity. Please feel free to contact Lena Key, a regional director for the program, with further questions. Thank you.
Parish Picnic August 25!
Exciting news! On Sunday, August 25, Lucie Muns is planning to graciously host St. Barbara’s Annual Parish Picnic at her lake-house in Chico, Texas. We look forward to this wonderful event which always features great food, fellowship and opportunities for swimming and other water-related activities. A sign-up sheet will be placed in the Church Hall at the start of August. Please plan to join us for a final community celebration at the start of the school year.
We continue our Youth Choir Rehearsals with a gathering of children, 3rd grade to senior in High School. We will meet this month on Saturday, July 13 at 5:00 pm. In addition, several men have expressed an interest in reviewing basics of choral singing. We will have our next Male Singing Workshops on Thursday, July 18, at 6:30 pm. If you are interested please see Fr. Basil and/or simply join us.
St. Vladimir Seminary Thank You!
Sunday evening, June 2, St. Barbara’s hosted a fund raiser for St. Vladimir Orthodox Seminary. The event took place at River Ranch in the Stockyards with approximately 120 in attendance. Over $10,000 was raised in support of seminary education! We wish to thank Tracie DeBolt, Darin DeBolt and Matushka Robyn Hatrak from SVS for their hard work coordinating, “Big Hats and Cocktails.” We want to thank also our guest speakers, Archpriest Chad Hatfield, Archpriest Jason Foster, Archpriest Philip LeMasters and Priest Photius Avant, as well as all who helped out with registration, greeting, and by purchasing tables and tickets for this well-received event. Your thoughtfulness was greatly appreciated.
Please remember the two-week Dormition Fast starting on August 1, as well as the Feasts of Transfiguration on August 6, and Dormition on August 15.
Two Summer Reminders
During your summer travels we encourage members of St. Barbara's to visit Orthodox Churches for Sundays and feasts in whatever city they may find themselves. In addition, we ask that during the summer months members make a special effort to remember Church pledges and offerings. Such efforts are greatly appreciated. Thank you.
