Readers Workshop November 5:
On Sunday, November 5, during the Coffee Hour, we will conduct a Readers Workshop for those who currently read, or who would like to learn to read in Church. The Workshop is open to men, women and teens. Those who chant the prayers and psalms provide a valuable service to the community. Through their efforts they help to lead the congregation in worship. Readers are encouraged, (1.) to engage in a regular personal rule of prayers, (2.) to participate in the services (even if they are not scheduled to read), (3.) to learn as much as they can about the worship and teachings of the Church, and (4.) to practice their “craft” at home, seeking always to improve their reading and chanting abilities. Should anyone have any questions please see Fr. Basil, and we look forward to the Workshop on November 5.
Teen Choir, Workshop, Education, G.C. & Council:
Teen Choir Rehearsal, Saturday, November 4 with Teens singing Vespers; Readers Workshop, Sunday, November 5; Church School, Saturday, November 11 at 4 pm; General Confession, Wednesday, November 15, at 6 pm; Council Meeting, Sunday, November 19 during Coffee Hour.
AZLE Mission (Service and Time Changes):
With the end of Daylight Savings Time on Sunday, November 5 (“fall back” an hour) we have time and service changes to announce for Archangel Gabriel Mission. Starting November 7, we will begin services on Tuesdays at 6 pm (in Azle) rather than 7 pm to help accommodate families with small children, and to compensate a bit for the fact that it will get darker, earlier in the day, during the Fall and Winter months. This change will last at least until March 11, 2018 and the start of Daylight Savings Time.
In addition, we will begin “once a month” Tuesday Vesperal Liturgies in Azle, with the first such service on November 14, the eve of the beginning of the Nativity Fast. The earlier Fall and Winter start times (6 pm) will insure that Liturgies end around 7:20 or 7:30, thus allowing for more fellowship time with members and visitors.
Fall Charity Drives:
During the Advent Season members of St. Barbara’s will be helping to coordinate 2 Charity Events: gifts for children through an Angel Tree effort, and a Coin Drive. More information is to follow. If anyone is interested in helping, however, please contact Mrs. Melinda Bowman.
